I've got a lot of 68K Mac hardware and I'm going to be thinning the
antique computer herd a bit. I have run Debian/m68k Potato and Sarge on
some of these machines and would love to see the port come back to
life. I can't contribute much to the effort at this point, but I would
be willing to d

Oh no! I already tried it! :)

I'm trying to install etch-m68k on a Centris 650, with the idea that
this might become a build machine, as discussed in a previous thread.
I'm using Finn Thain's 2.6.22 kernel from

Ok, so I've got the 9G drive hooked up. It has a Mac file system on it,
apparently from a PPC Mac of some sort that had MacOS 9. I ran Norton
Disk Doctor on it FWIW, and it didn't find any bad blocks. So maybe
this is a usable drive. I guess what I'll try to do now is install a
small 68K MacOS

I recently hauled a couple carloads of computer junk away from my old
college, ranging from 68030 macs to Athlon 1700XP+ systems, plus WiFi
gear and lots of other stuff. One of the things I received was a
Centris 650, which is a 25MHz 68040. The CPU speed isn't all that
great, but it does have 4

I'd like to try Etch-m68k. The machine I'd like to use is a Quadra 630
with a 1.1G IDE drive and 54M RAM. It currently has a working Sarge
install that's just been used for experimental purposes. I'm not too
concerned about the current contents of the drive. I installed Sarge

If I read you right, you are running xorg 7.1.1 under etch-m68k on
several Mac systems. I have installed Woody and Sarge on Quadra 630,
Quadra 700, and Quadra 840av systems and have noticed that on all of
these systems key repeat does not work in X. It does work in the
console, but in X y

Hey Brian,
I'd be curious about some of your other findings on X. I have Woody or
Sarge installed on 2 Quadra 840avs, a Q700, and a Q630 motherboard in a
PowerMac 5200 all-in-one case (to save workbench space

Hey all,
I've got a pile of old 68k Macs that I've been playing with Debian on on
an occasional basis for years now. First installed Potato on a IIci,
then obtained some better hardware, and have put Woody and Sarge on a
couple Q840av machines, and most recently used Laurent Vivier's Emile

As a postscript to my previous post, let me add that I have ethernet
transceiver dongles for probably most of the Quadras, which all have
built-in ethernet. The IIci's would need NuBus network cards.

I don't know whether it would make a significant difference in build
time for m68k packages or not, and I don't know much about the buildd
process, but I have 2 Quadra 840AVs, a 660AV, and a pile (I think 4 or
more) of Q700s lying around doing not much of anything at the moment.

I've been using Damn Small Linux on low-end x86 machines for a while now
and have been very happy with its performance, general utility, and
creative approach. While the effort to regroup for a possible Etch+1
release for the m68k architecture is underway, perhaps it would be worth
considering a r

assume I've made a bad config file and keep working on that.
BTW, reply to the list -- I've spam-trapped my reply-to address. Or you can

dow system, but obviously key repeat is generated at a level below the level
of the events that xev watches. Since I have key repeat in the console I'm
assuming the problem is not at the level of the kernel. Is this a fairly safe
assumption?

I had Potato installed on a different Q840AV, but I don't remember this
problem. Is this peculiar to xfree86 4? I've included my
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 for your learned scrutiny.
