about optimization, I'm more worried that it seems
DBMail doesn't close the connection to PostgreSQL correctly when IMAP
connections disconnect. I've looked through the code, but not sure
specifically where this needs to be fixed. :/

not be handled optimally.
What version of DBMail are you using?
