FWIW, this "rule" doesn't work nearly as well for all languages as for
English (and even there it's arguable practice).
E.g. since all nouns in German should be capitalized according to language
authorities, wouldn't using all-lowercase in dt effectively make the German
translation incorrect?

It is difficult to say that it is a "rule".
In French, for instance, the uppercase at the beginning of a sentence is
"orthographic".
This means that the lack of such an uppercase letter violates an
orthographic rule.
It is the same, BTW (and in French), for the diacritics on uppercase
letters.

This is because in Italian all sentences starts with an uppercase so we
(Italian people) expect to see an uppercase at the beginning of a sentence.

English as their native language find it strange if everything is written in
