OK. On a whim, I changed the desktop to "Yaru session" on the Ubuntu
20.04 login screen. To my amazement, dt now works as it should. Looks
like this is a GUI problem, possibly on the gtk end but it looks like it
has nothing to do with dt. There was a mutter update a few days ago
which may be tr
Tried with opencl disabled on version 2338 but still a hard freeze. Then
disabled all options pertaining to module gui selection (single,
expanded, etc) but no difference.
I have a 98k backtrace. Can I attach to this list or should I use dropbox?

When darktable freezes cold, try `killall -SIGSEGV darktable` - it should
generate backtrace.

I see. If I can find some time I plan to do a build from current master
this afternoon. Then I will try again to reproduce your freeze with an
up to date version of master. Unfortunately I can not try with 20.04,
not yet installed on any of my hardware.

Yes, I piped the last -d all session into a text file so I have it all.
But there is no indication of anything amiss. It just stops cold. And
the compile has no complaints.

Hi Jack,
perhaps Ubuntu 20.04 makes the difference. Did you get any warnings or
error messages during build ? Did you try running dt with debug option
-d all ? Possibly you can get some more detailed info about your freeze.

Thanks, Peter. I did not disable opencl so I will try that to see if it
fixes things. But having no opencl is really not an option :) I am on
Ubuntu 20.04.

Hi Jack,
just tried with 3.1.0+2164~ga64940338, Ubuntu 18.04, OpenCL active,
build about 3 or 4 days ago. I can not confirm. Tried several times with
fresh imported image(s) and an image processed previously. All behave as
expected, no freeze. I also deactivated OpenCL, no change, works as
