gcc install problem

I'm trying to install gcc on my system so I can build the id-utils. I run the setup program from the web site, pick a mirror, check "Devel/gcc". Some other things get pulled in. I hit Next. The .bz files are downloaded to my package dirs, and it says "Download Complete". Yay! But the binaries don
