Yes. Rerun 'setup.exe' and select "Install from Local Directory". This

There is no need to overcomplicate this. If you want to download Cygwin
you go to the web site called "cygwin.com" and foll

I am not sure. When I wanted to install and run a BSD program on my WIN XP
using Cygwin, I had to download and install 2 other programs and in the end
there was still something missing..
That's fine. It's been a winding, tricky path to get to here. I'll
download it from the site you mentioned.
Well, I tried something like a bromly site and it died during the
download. I then picked the redhat site, and it downloaded 15M. Both
bromly and redhat release folders looked similar. Ab

I have been using Cygwin for years, and I have it installed on two Windows XP
and a Windows Vista systems.
Today, I tried to install it on my Windows XP system at work. I downloaded
the entire release ("Download without Installing") and copied this to a CD.
I got the release from kernel.org. I h

Hello Brian.
After a fresh Cygwin install, I encountered the same error:
bash: /etc/profile: Permission denied
So I just right clicked the file, selected properties,
selected the security tab, and gave myself read and write permission.
Now Cgwin bash runs correctly without error.

Brian,
The main issue is what should be done *before* setup runs, rather than
after everything is installed. If you manually create c:\cygwin and give

I just installed cygwin and none of the post-install scripts work after

After installing cygwin, I found the following details:
