Thanks all - I had installed jiffy reefing on the prior boat, and used
eyestraps and cheek blocks, worked great. I do not have a loose footed main,
and i do not recall grommets or slots to permit the reefing line to pass
through. I may have missed that, hidden in plain sight. My main does h

I would be very surprised if the rot was not a result of standing water
collecting at the bottom. Even condensation dripping down if it is humid as
you say.
My thought would be to cut above the area of rot it with a hole saw, then cut
vertically down to the bottom, making a mouse hole. Si

Wrapping up Windstar's electrical work and I notice one, final, hokey, length
of wire-with-hidden-glass-fuse - the binnacle light. This was wired to the
12v hot wire on the starter, back to a big clunky pull switch awkwardly mounted
at the engine control panel, and thence to the pedestal.

This has bugged me since I bought the boat. The wrenches are currently
cable-tied to the tiller and the tiller is tied to the hold down straps on the
fuel tank. Not a fan really, and I don't like needing tools for such a thing.

exhaust is noisy - like an open exhaust, maybe no water. Run it for a bit at
higher rpm, and suddenly it quiets down and sounds normal. Next cold start,
