Thanks gentlemen - an annoying problem indeed.. The unit is basically new, has 
seen very little use.   Solved temporarily with a tiny bungee cord.  Will 
tackle it tomorrow.

Mine was doing the same thing and if you do a google search you will find that 
many others have the same issue.
Tightening the screw that holds the lever in place may help for a while but the 
problem eventually will resurface. I rectified the problem by filing down the 
?bump? so that it locks into the hollow in the handle. Now it stays put. IMHO, 
this is a design flaw that raymarine will not admit to. They should have used 
aluminum rather than plastic in the first place and it should have been 
machined more carefully.
