All, a friend told me about Loong Sailmakers, supposedly one of the largest
sailmakers in the world. Has anyone had an experience with them? Looking at
possibly getting a quote on a mainsail for my C&C 33.
Thanks,

Made in China, personally, I am trying to avoid made in China products when
there are made in North America, Europe or Australia/New Zealand alternatives,
even at an additional cost.

IMHO I would not ever use a remote mail order business for canvas or sails if
it can be avoided. The local cheap sail guy may be sourcing his sails from
China or Thailand at the back end, but he is available to take measurements and
make alterations. Locally Bacons will sell you a new sail for a

I have not purchased from Loong sails but reflect other's comments here
about things made in China, especially in the current climate. I just
purchased a new main from evolution out of New Zealand, really happy with
their service. They even partnered with a local small loft to take care of

We just took delivery of a new main and 140% Jib from the UK loft in
Chicago. They came out and measured the boat to fit the sails. We
weren't sure if we were going to get our sails this season since
Illinois is in tighter lock down than Michigan was but the loft was

Since my boat has a modified rig I get all my sails locally, so the loft
can measure and advise on the boat. I do realize that the sail may not
be built at the local loft, but not in China. I try to stay away from
things manufactured in China, it is hard, but I do try.

Thank you Mike –
You have given me a couple a couple of leads to follow, no pun intended. I
will try a separate 24v Lead, and see what happens. Altho not likely, I thought
that possibly the motor was made on a Friday and the crimper didn’t strip the
motor leads or something, who knows. I
My 38 mk1 also used 5/16 oval head Philips machine screws for the toe rail.
Never had a leak on the 25 during the 26 years I’ve owned her, so I’ve not a
clue as to what size they were.
