Ken and others, first, thanks for the many responses on the UV protection; I
am thinking this pole will not get the usage it might if I were racing, so I
should be OK with the recommended clearcoat paint products; am I correctly

We use the 'Pool Noodle' approach mentioned further down in that thread.
It works well.

First off, I would call Forespar and ask them, they make them.
My understanding is that the clear coat that is already on it protects the
carbon fiber. A polish will help protect the factory clear coat.
Painting it white, would be like putting pants over your coveralls. Putting a
clear coat
You can just paint it white, or whatever, and leave it. Or you can clear
coat it. or you can cover it. No need to do more than one.

On my mooring we have two separate pennants. Having one passed through the
ring on the buoy and then back to the boat will lead to failure from chafe
at the ring. An additional problem I had on my 40 and on my current boat
was that my anchor is stowed on a roller on the bow. I have to tie it up to
During hurricanes I use at least 2 pennants if not more. They will be
staggered in length so the first one has all the strain and the others
don't have strain or chafe until the first one lets loose. I have never
had one chafe through, but it could happen. You *must* have a swivel, I

I have done more reading and investigation over the last few days. One thing
is that it seems many mooring failures seem to be chafe rather than pendants
parting or cleat failures. But there are also many nylon rode failures in
hurricanes and violent storms. So here is my current pendant plan
