I have done more reading and investigation over the last few days. One thing is that it seems many mooring failures seem to be chafe rather than pendants parting or cleat failures. But there are also many nylon rode failures in hurricanes and violent storms. So here is my current pendant plan. Two equal length pendants connected by a sling link (a steel loop through the two pendants shackled to the mooring swivel) with premium chafe sleeves at the eye. I am considering a dyneema Cyclone to add on for known storms. I am still debating the rope material. One interesting thing I learned that surprised me was that both Yale (Maxi-moor II) and Novabraid (Novatec) have gone to all polyester for premium mooring pendants. No specific data backs this decision up that I can find so far. But polyester is stronger than nylon, nore resistant to melting under stress and doesn’t absorb water which reduces nylon strength. Here is a link to an nteresting article which discusses the issue, but unfortuantely no specific recommendation. It appears no one has done the experiment. I suspect the answer is that there is not yet a perfect solution. Each of the current options has its plusses and minusses. :
