FWIW my stanchions come off in the fall to put the winter cover on and when I was putting them back on I noticed there were two holes for the set screw and a big dollop of what seemed like the sealant they used to seal the hull and deck, in the bases. I pulled out the sealant and the stanchions

A one inch diameter stanchion has a circumference of about three inches (pi x d). I notched the open ends 1/8 inch or so, about half way up, something like this: ___ |_ _| |_| so when the plastic is bent around and inserted into the socket, there's an
