I've always just taken a bunch of wraps of line around the drum and
cleated it tight to keep it from turning while I broke the bolt free.

This would more than likely be a painted hull and not GelCoat, right?

I have the same issue on my 37+. Water from the bilge gets around the keel
bolts when the boat is on the hard. I first noticed rust coming out of a
blister in the keel. When the boat is in the water nothing leaks.
Next winter I'm going to pull the mast, seal around the keel bolts and
torque them
Hi Ron,
I have not seen any signs of rust, but I'm in Lake Superior (and always
have been AFAIK), so that may be why there's no/little rust yet. I also
have no noticable leaks and the bulges are not huge, but definitely
noticeable when on the hard. There are some small cracks in the lead around

Hi Frank,
I tried several things and my best result was take all oxidation with a
high speed polisher with wool pads / 3M super duty, wet sand it with
1500-2000 grit paper and lots of water then buff with a high speed
polisher with wool pads, 3M Finesse-it compound or Meguire's fine
compound.
Gene, Jake,
Unfortunately this is not so unusual, at least here near Toronto where
things freeze solid in winter.
I first noticed this in the fall where I saw one 33-2 in the repair yard
adjacent to our marina that had it so bad that the keel had cracked around
the bolt head and a palm-sized chun

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your advice. Did you notice water drainage from the holes you
bored? What did you use to inject it fully? Also have you done anything to
mitigate the issue at the top of the keel bolts? I assume this is where the
intrusion is occuring.
Regards,
Gene

Drainage - More like what I'd describe as dampness along the cracks, and
after I ground off a previous skim-repair, after sitting all winter. Not
enough water to leak out of the holes. I had much bigger issues I was
addressing at the time, you may have seen my blog on my keel stub repair.

Frank,
Where do you have your boat? My previous boat (Southcoast 23) was in
Lake Lewisville at Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club. That was a long time
ago (before Lake Ray Roberts). We lived in the Colony.

Other things to consider: 1) over all height, there are some low bridges out
there, 2) width, some highways/roads may require an escort and 3) how would you
transport the mast?

Stephen I don't know if this helps you, but the PO who moved my 30-1 from

I bought a Columbia 26 MKII in 1974 and moved it to the Corinthian Yacht Club.
In 1976 I moved it to Lake Grapevine because it was closer to where I live in

Since then I have sailed with the American Airlines Sailing Cl
