I received the blessing from the Admiral to equip Zia with a folding prop
this season. I have been looking at our options and the Gori 2 blade geared
prop 11.5 X 8 looks like it would do the job.
Before I pull the trigger on this, I would like to check with the list for

I'd be inclined to go with a three blade, if it's in the budget. It will be
much smoother than a two-blade.

I replaced my Max-Prop 3 blade feathering with a Gori ~ 4 years ago and have
zero issues since. The Gori was tested best/lowest drag of any folding prop by
Yachtworld (?). According to that test, its drag was almost too low to be
measured compared to the other props. Of course, I mostly club rac
I'm sittin' on a maxprop 2 blade 13" 1" shaft prop right now.
Came from a Nicholson 303. Works great, looks great. Pics if you want them.

Almost all A4s use a 7/8" shaft. Just FYI, I had a Martec folding prop and
*hated it*. The ONLY good thing it did was fold up.
Sounds like the Gori is better.

When I was looking a number of years ago, I found the Flex-o-fold prop to be
of better quality than the Gori. Smoother mechanism, finer machining, etc.
Can't say much more because the Flex has been on the boat for over 10 years.
Happy.

I have the Gori 11.5 x 8 on Windburn, also with an Atomic 4.
My guess is that it is slightly over pitched and that 11.5 x 7.5
or 11.5 x 7 might be the optimal size.
I have not found it to be an issue since Windburn is kept light for
racing and bereft of bimini and dodger. While motor sailing, thos
I'll second the Flex-o-fold - have one on Perception, works well in forward and
reverse. Much better than the Campbell Sailor it replaced.

And how is switching from forward to reverse? Does the boat stop quickly and
start moving astern or si it like the martec where it keeps going forward for a
long time?

It stops and reverses quickly - don't be afraid of the throttle though, a good
shot helps it and gets the flow over the rudder started, something I need when
reversing out of my slip as it is a bit tight.

Joe,
I would recommend that you take a look at the forums at www.moyermarine.com.
You will find lots of discussion about the best prop for the direct drive

Any ideas as to where I can find the molding between the acrylic and the

Good advice on Moyer Marine, but I would also talk to the prospective suppliers
about it. When I bought mine last year, I found all of the distributors that
responded to my inquiry to be very helpful about recommending the right size
for my boat and primary uses. For Gori, I would recommend co
