Sam,
Well for certain I’m filled with envy considering I’m sitting in the Pacific
North West and thought last weekends 63 degrees was fantastic for sailing
(winds 10 - 15 KTS). But I’d much rather be where you are! I’m a relatively
new sailor with a 26’ that I’ve had for about 6 months - and

Sam,
for some winter reading get yourself some books on trim and sail use and
general sailing.
There are few online (PDF) sources that might be of interest (e.g.:
http://sfbaysss.net/resource/doc/SinglehandedTipsThirdEdition.pdf, or
http://setsail.com/mwh.pdf, or http://setsail.com/sts.pdf).
Yeah, I've got a bunch of sail trim books - most I keep in the bathroom where I have time to sit and cogitate! About 6 years ago I took an advanced sail trim course out of Bellingham, WA. Boat was a custom 52 ft Wylie (sp) with every conceivable sail trim option. Course was about $400 and well wor
Sam,
I have to say you're a hell of a lot smarter than me.. I'm working at Fort

the Western United States including Alaska and Hawaii and you're sitting in
a bar in Antigua!
I'm taking a similar course that will certify me
Hi Brent,
I've always felt offshore capabilities of various boats depended more on the
skipper than the boat. Look at what Slocum took around the world. Now they are
crossing ocean with rowboats.
I've always been a fan of Finnistere, the S&S 38ft centerboarder that won
Newport to Bermuda race
Though I like the idea of trailer ing down to Fla and sailing across, (and
you're right, it would be easy with the 27), I'm looking forward to doing a
little exploring on the way down from the Chesapeake, hopping in and out of the
ditch. I suspect that not having a schedule will make it as much
Brent,
My 1981 40' is the big brother of the 34'. Although we are a deep draft (7'6")
the hull shapes are probably very similar. I can tell you Corsair has been
out in "stuff" (40+ knots) in the Gulf of Main and the Gulf Stream on the way
to and fro Bermuda. Her handling and construction h

If you are in the ICW in Savannah look me up. We live on the water and not
far off the ICW. Always happy to put up a fellow C&C owner at our dock for
a few days.

Brent,
Although it was not a CB version, many years ago I delivered a C&C 34 from Ft.

It was that experience that made me very interested in C&C’s and because of
that when I happened to see what is now Ronin abandoned in a yard, I was

As others have mentioned it's more about the sailor and weather than the boat.
With that said a 34 would leave very little room for error and wouldn't be my
first choice. Fine for the ICW and a hop to the Bahamas but for extended
offshore... not so much. Aside from that, cargo capacity becomes
Hey Andy we are over in Beaufort. We should hook up sometime. Maybe on the May

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not planning anything right now, this is more
food for thought. I gotta get the young ones raised first since the Admiral
will have no part in cruising. This particular boat is not my first choice for
a crossing of any kind but since my crew member is in the midst
I used to see a 30 Mk 1 in the Caribbean for years. She'd been sailed down from
Ontario. Our boats are pretty stout...certainly a lot better than some of the
boats built for cruising these days.

Sounds good. I should be in that general neighborhood mid April getting a boat
ready to head to the Med.

I've found a Universal M4-30 close to home, 100 miles away, $3,000. Does
anyone have any experience with these? Are parts available? The seller says its
been completely rebuilt and has one hour on it, was on eBay earlier this year
for $4,5000, why didn't it sell?? My '78 29-1 has long since had

I've also had my 1983 37 centerboard to and from Bermuda a couple of times as
well as Annapolis to Newport. Conditions included over 40 knots and a rough
Gulf Stream crossing coming home last year and the boat handles the weather
very well and with good crew comfort.

Off and running on the upgrade path!
The 32 is a nice boat, the cockpit in particular is great.
That one looks like it has had something done to the windows, and owner

Current owner spent a fair bit on her, although the interior was done by yours
truly. Anyway, if you know anyone looking, she's a good boat and I'd love to
see her go to a good home.
Cheers,

Nice looking interior!
I still get a kick out of someone who managed to replace a boat called
Tangerine with a boat called Orange Crush ... without involving a renaming
ceremony!
