Just to throw another variable in the mix, I don't use a biocide. Maybe
I've just gotten lucky but I've never had a problem and simply keep the
tank "fresh" by keeping it low and constantly topping it up little by
little, 5 gallon can at a time through a filter funnel. Basically my
mantra is, kee

FYI - Biobor kills algae, which is good if you don’t have any yet. If you have
it already and it is sticking to the tank walls, once it dies it might get
loose and clog your filters.
I wouldn’t try this with a modern diesel, but in really cold weather I added
about ½ gallon of gasoline per tank

I know this has been brought up before, but I did want to check if new info out
there.
Besides the water/microbe problem, we now have the low sulfur fuel as well.
And it seems like there was a third item
I use Stanadyne Lubricity Formula. Only thing my diesel guy recommends.

I use Stanadyne Lubricity Formula. Touché has a Racor water separating filter
and an Algae-X for all the junk.

I use OptiLube XPD. It is supposed to be the best lubricity additive. As
for the biofouling I just keep water out and the fuel fresh. Gelling
occurs in weather which I choose not to sail.
