I have a 2 blade variprofile on my 33-2. You can feel the boat surge forward
when it feathers, usually picking up between .5 and .75 knots of boat speed.

Hi Chuck,
I mounted a brand-new Flexofold 2-blade prop on my 35-3, Spirit, last
spring. It was replacing a 3-blade fixed that was still in great shape, but
I couldn't stand the thought of the drag! Right from the start with the

On my previous boat, an Ericson 30, I replaced a two-bladed fixed prop with
a two-bladed Martec, non-geared folding prop. It worked fine, but after
many years, it didn't always open all the way, and I had to put the engine
in reverse, and then forward to get the blades to open. For the best

Josh,
My previous post, I think, agrees adjust-ability is an important
parameter in the selection of a propeller. Just not the only one.

I agree that the Max-Prop is considerably more expensive. The PO
improperly adjusted mine. But that improper adjustment could have just as
easily been an improper selection of pitch on a fixed pitch prop. Then I
would have had no choice but to replace it. Being adjustable I was able to

Josh,
I have only owned two brands of propellers (Max-Prop and
Flex-O-Fold). I can say they are both quality products. As a person who
bought a new boat that had the wrong pitch Flex-O-Fold propeller, I can say
that adjust-ability could have saved me a LOT of money. That being said,

Gary makes the comment regarding getting the right pitch. I have little
experience with anything other than a Max-Prop but I can't advocate
strongly enough for the versatility of being able to adjust the pitch. It
blows my mind that selecting a prop based on calculations works for so many
people.
Flex-O-Fold is rated very highly compared to other props. Yachting Monthly
rated them below:

I have a 3 blade Flex-O-Fold prop. Make sure you get the right pitch and
diameter.

Hi Chuck
I just purchased a 2 blade Flex-o-fold from the manufacturer in Denmark. It
replaces a Martec Eliptec RH16DX14P for our Yanmar 3GM30F on our Frers 33.
Pricing was just over $1600 Canadian shipped to our door. We were hit up
another $242 at the door by the courier to cover provincial
I have been delighted with my Flex-o-fold for about 15 years or so. Only on a
30-1 with Yanmar.

I just bought a Gori two-blade folding prop for my 30-1. AB Marine in Rhode
Island was running a boat show sale price of $845 until December 15th - their
list price is $1,184. The $845 was $185 less than Flex-o-fold, and $50 more
than Martec. I looked on eBay several times and could never find a
