Allan, hi,
I would like to acquire your old hand rails.
How much do you want for them, and what is the shipping cost?
Thx,
Pete W.

I can’t say for sure how the Rudder is supported in an 85 C&C 37 but by
1988, the C$C 37/40 had a bolt through the Rudder Post just above the deck
with two rollers on either end of the bolt that rolled on a plate on the
deck. Perhaps that bolt is sheared off?

The collective wisdom appears to be the deck fitting. On my 42, the post is supported at the deck by two bronze rollers (I’ve discussed the design previously). A pin goes through the post and the rollers are held in place with nuts on each end. I had a nut come off several years ago, which nearl
I thought there was a nut on the top of the post. If so, it may have come
off and it slipped down till the quadrant hit the hull. Obviously you are
going to have to go down an look, and all things shall be revealed unto you

I'm afraid you're gonna have to go digging around inside but I agree that it
sounds like the quadrant (or hydraulic drive arm if equipped) is what stopped
the rudder from dropping further. I'm not familiar with the 37 but on the 37+
the rudder is held up by a stainless bolt with bronze rollers
Matt thanks; shaft goes up to the cockpit sole where there is a fitting with (I
assume) the delrin washer holding the whole assembly;

I think a trip to your boat is warranted. There is usually a pin on the top of
the rudder post in the cockpit that stops the rudder post from dropping. First
thing is to determine if the entire rudder and post is dropping (good case) and
determine why and fix that. If post has not dropped the
Sounds like the quadrant may have prevented it from falling out. How is it
supported at the deck?

Hi all; I am in need the collective wisdom of the group for a rudder issue; my
boat (1985 C&C 37 CB) has been sitting on a trailer since early September for
repairs to the hull, not rudder related; sometime in the past week the rudder
has dropped a full two plus inches and no one knows how this
