I would go back to a C&C 39, tall rig, deep rudder and the light weight Atomic
4 aux engine. Prep it to be fully optimized for its PNW PHRF rating but include
a “penalty pole” and blooper for those long DDW legs. I would also want the
upgraded winch package that included the Barient titanium dru
I agree on “so many variables.” Prevailing conditions may be most important.
If it’s blowing 20+, I beat the fleet with my 30 MK I. But where I race, that
kind of wind only happens a couple times per season. I didn’t set out to buy

Glad to read some positive comments about the 115.
One thing I didn't like about the cockpit is how the winches are so far from
the helm, it's just impossible to solo, as is. Guess you could move a pair of
winches back.

Very good points, Ron.
What's the budget? That could rule out any Tartan built C&Cs.
My 34R is tricked out with many upgrades to make her better for shorthanded or
solo racing on distance races on Chesapeake Bay. Just added a Selden sprit for
her two assyms. I installed a carbon tube throu
Dennis,
You are close with the boat you own. Found the 35 mk1 hard to beat. My
boat 35 Mk2 (47 years old) does sail close to her PHRF rating. Unless
we really screw up tactically, (going to wrong side of the course, etc)
she finishes in the the top 5-10% of the class. Family sailed boat (41

So, Dennis, as you can see already, you may have to narrow (filter) the
possible choices. There those of us who would highly recommend one of the Rob
Ball pre 80 37's or 38's(same hull) and those who favor later Rob Ball
models..and those who favor the Tartan C&C models.

Chuck,
Having raced a 34R, I agree with good sails but you would also need a
very competent, aggressive crew. The boat needs all the power it can
deliver to sail to its numbers and only an aggressive crew will be able
to deliver that. The 34R is not the boat for the timid skipper and crew.
C&C 115 all day long. I love the older Rob Ball LATE 80's 37 and 34 XL/ R's but
they could never match their ratings. Having owned one! 1989 37XL.

Dennis,
So many variables. Location, prevailing conditions, local coastal or offshore
events.
I would probably lean towards a 34R with new sails including an Assym and
Symmetrical Chute, a baby smooth bottom job, and really good beer so I could
attract the best possible crew. And let someone r
If one was to buy a C&C to totally trick out for handicap racing, which
model would you buy and why?
What modifications would you make if you had a bunch of boat bucks?

What have you?
I was just informed my son and his buddy want to do a winter break cruise. This
means leaving the dinghy in the water until January, so I think they just got
volunteered to be the ones that get wet hauling it out after the cruise 😊
I just got the bottom cleaned a couple of weeks
