When the rubrail on Imzadi (1976 38 mk2) was damaged, the first estimate for
repair was over $10K. (remove about 240 through bolts, lift off the toe rail,

the flange at the top of the hull, clean up all the old sealant,
Just an FYI…
Grew up on LIS. Foredeck (cow) monkey at 12 (big for my age) on a 35 MK1 and

All great questionssomeone in NE PHRF once calculated that for every 100
lbs you have on the foredeck, you lose 3 seconds per mile. And he was the C&C

calculation.

Anybody have an update on Wally? Is Stella Blue still in Mexico? Last I
recall was a “soap box derby” type of race somewhere in Baja on whatever people
could create out of locally sourced flotsam…

If that one is no longer for whatever reason, there there is one hidden
below as well. You have to take the port settee top off to see it
though, up close to the forward bulkhead.

I am pretty lucky to live here on Narragansett Bay with 3 lofts of the
major sailmakers situated locally (used to be 5 but consolation combined
them to 3). All will come to boat for measurements and sail with you
for fit and adjustments after delivery. Have received photos of the

I have sailed across Lake Michigan on a C&C 36 with Sobstad sails
several times. They are good sails and we have held up well. They came
from the Cleveland loft.

Ditto what Josh said. I just got a new 155 genoa yesterday. Measured by a
local sailmaker but manufactured at the Quantum loft in Sri Lanka. I'll
hoist it in the next few days and inspect it.

FWIW, the fastest chute on my boat is a 30+ year old patched up sail, which we
lovingly call “Big Blue.” At least according to the bag, it’s a Sobstad.
Depending on how long the loft has been in Cleveland, it was likely made there.

What he said. Pick a loft that will come to your boat and will do
alterations/repairs. Ask around to see who gives good service.
Locally I have had good luck with Quantum and Bacons.
Given only what I know from your email, I would probably pick Sobstad as well.

My experience is that it is invaluable to have the loft able to come
measure, fit, review, revise, and service your sail. Many many lofts will
send the actual manufacture of the sail overseas but that is irrelevant if
you have a loft that is performing the above services.

Hello all,
Thank you for all the comments regarding sails for For Play. I have
received quotes from 5 different lofts regarding sails and although I
believe you get what you pay for, I also agree with what Joe said that you
are buying a sail maker as well.
Here is a list of quoted sails, I tried
