Wal and JIm I'll try the router first.  Template taped underneath the hole to guide the trim bit, frame of 1x4s on top of the deck to provide a flat surface for the router base. That should keep it under control. Did the very rough cut with the jig saw already.  Very solid deck with a glass cor

Maybe some scrap wood and clamps would help the router stay under control. Else I'd use a sabre saw to trace the outline. Carbonite bits cut through fiberglass well. Good caulk fixes many minor errors. Sorry if someone else already said this... I'm about 145 emails behind. Wal On 3/27/2015

I've also got a bunch of wires running through my pedestal guard - Ray E7 cable (the big one), NMEA 2000, autopilot, 12 volt. It is MUCH easier if you have a helper on one end to grab/guide the wires. There is a small bulkhead just behind the guard, so it is easy to put terminal strips there. T

The sticky but working MHU might be repairable. There are kits available: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Raymarine-Autohelm-ST50-Wind-Vane-Bearings-O-Rings-/390530744370 That will do the ST50 units with black ends, some of the ST60 units. The bearings are available separately, NMB DDR-830ZZRA1P25LY121.

Brad, My boat has a Raymarine chart plotter in a NavPod enclosure. The NavPod bolts directly to an Edson pedestal guard. All wiring runs through the pedestal guard and directly into the Chartplotter. There is quite a bit of stuff in the pedestal guard's tubing including power for the chart plot
