Where I live in Tampa Bay, everyone needs to have the hull cleaned every month
due to algae growth. So the divers are very reasonable. They’ll come in and do
10 or 15 boats in a marina, one after the other, 20 minutes a boat.

I also clean Touché's bottom myself. I have a 50 hose and a Conshelf XIV
regulator I bought off eBay. The hose is from browniesmarinegroup.com. They
also sell compressors but they're a wee bit pricey.
I just leave the tank on the pier and dive. I have a 5/3 wetsuit and weight

I did just that. I got certified and started cleaning the bottom of my boat
only to find out it is very hard work. So I have been paying 75 bucks a
month and its eating my lunch. So I will try again this spring. I got the 7

Burt,
I started cleaning my own boat about 13 years ago. Since I race, a clean
bottom is essential. I clean it before each race. The going rate around
here is $65 per cleaning, so I have recouped by dive gear costs in the first
year. Everything after that is gravy. I also have a great new

I have been doing my own underwater maintenance for over 35 years. I mostly
enjoy the process but am coming from having some commercial dive training and
building up experience when I was younger and more tolerant of adverse

In NC, our boats never come out for the Winter so the bottom needs cleaned
regularly if you race or not. Fortunately I get mine done at least monthly for
about $50 per cleaning and given the hassle of doing myself, it's a no brained
to pay someone to do this.
OTOH, at $100 plus per cleaning, I
Happy holidays to all!
Jack, how do you clean your hull? Do you do it yourself or hire it out. I am
considering getting dive certified so I can get a set of tanks and air. Even
with all the gear (weights, wet suit, etc.) I think it would be a lot less
expensive in the long run and as a bonus, I
I found this out this year myself. I have had no problems at the mooring
with drainage in my cockpit. When the boat haulers dropped her in the yard
they asked which way the boat drains (fore or aft) I told them to keep it
level. They were surprised. My cockpit drains are right in the middle of my

As others have stated, there is no need to drill holes through your
toerail(s) to allow water on the deck to drain overboard.I simply
tie a piece of soft 1/4' rope to the inside of the toerail with a few
inches lying on the deck where the water pools and hang the outer end

Dan,
Welcome to the fraternity of C&C owners.
If you need to help your diesel start, WD-40 is safer than ether as a starting
fluid. Also, heating the intake area with a space heater or heat gun will help
a cold, reluctant diesel engine fire up.

Not sure I would feel good about that idea for adjusting the stands if my
boat were stored close to yours

I have to echo Bill’s sentiments
One of the more annoying things with a boat not level is water pooling inside
the boat. When I run antifreeze thru shower sump, bilge pumps, cooler pumps
etc I have to manually sponge out any excess since the pickups are no longer in
the lowest points.

I recently had the bottom cleaned and there was some restriction on the
water-intake for the engine. I ran the engine yesterday, it was difficult
to start so I used a shot of ether. Initially a black blob of "stuff" came
out and floated away then the engine began to smoke (blue). It had not

This has been oneof my pet peeves forever. For some reason, it has been passed
down through the ages at our club that you tilt the boat back to drain. I have
explained to the guys several times that boats drain properly only when they
are level and they miss the holes when they tilted . I hol
I use strips of Trader Joe's chamois cloths that work well as Jim described

Cram a small sponge through the toerail where the water pools, it will wick
it overboard pretty quickly and you won't be drilling a bunch more holes in
your boat.

Shedding of surface water on boats is a design element that is
predicated on the boat rolling, rocking and pitching. When that movement
stops, there are usually problems. In the days of wooden boats, being on
land caused greatly accelerated deterioration. This is exactly why many
people cover t
Hi all, I have a question on boat stands and aft tilting of the boat while
on the hard.
I find water drainage on most C&C designs to be horrible. I've tackled the
issues many times but this one keeps coming back to haunt me.
When the boat is in water, a while back I made drain holes at what

I saw a picture of Salazar on a trailer heading to a boat yard this weekend.
Big work planned for the boat?
