Hi,    I would say both are right.  In theory if all amine blush is removed followed by a careful sanding, gelcoat should adhere well to epoxy, but sometimes it won't. Epoxy is stronger than polyester resin for both resistance and adhesion. As a general rule: epoxy over gelcoat is perfect, gelco

Steve, if you are really concerned, put a layer of vinylester (like 3M Premium filler, which is an excellent filler on its own merits) between the epoxy and the gelcoat. Done right, however, there should be no issues on the bond even without. On 30 December 2013 19:11, Jack Brennan wrote: > Hi

Hi Steve: I think polyester resin works just fine above the water line. You want epoxy below the waterline for its extra strength and better resistance to water intrusion, but polyester would do the job for fixing the deck. A lot cheaper, too, if you're using it by the gallon. What boat are

Steve, I work with both epoxy and resin.  For larger repairs I tend to use resin.   If your repair isn't terribly structural, why not use resin?  Resin is a fraction of the cost of epoxy. The West System makes it easy with their proportional pumps.  But...resin is also easy if you go metric.  I
