Hi Kevin, Two comments:
I am with the others regarding using this kind of pants for off-shore foulies. For off-shore, you want clothes that are designed to be 100% waterproof and breathability is only secondary. I find that having the right gear for the right activity is quite critical. Over the years I collected a good arsenal of ski clothing and I would not even try using them on the water (other than some of the base layers, but that's a different story). Even pouring rain does not wet you as much as a decent wave. Btw. I am not a big fan of mixing GoreTex and salt water; the salt crystals act as wicks and let the water through the pores. But if you are looking for decent pants like the ones from Mountain Hardwear, look at these at the MEC (http://www.mec.ca/product/5029-940/mec-synergy-pants-mens/?h=10+50001+50020 +50089+50106+50022&f=10+50001+50022+50089+51004; I am not sure if the link would work, but you can find them at MEC.ca (or .com) and look for climbing pants for men). They have waterproof zippers and even without the discount are cheaper (at $195). (Full disclosure: I am a member, but I have no interest or other association with the MEC). My wife has a 50% deal at the employee store. $500 pants for $250. Seems like a good way to get high quality fouls with out spending major money for Musto etc. Anybody have an opinion as to why this may be a bad idea? http://www.mountainhardwear.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-MountainHardwear_U S-Site/default/mProduct-Show?pid=OM4772&start=12
