A Mk IV is also a nice boat, several have diesels.

There are usually some to be found on Lake Ontario. They're not always
listed with brokers though so you wouldn't see them on YW.
Look on kijiji Ontario. Here's one that popped up right away.

It's a long way to ship, but it looks clean.

Jake and others,
What is the correct tension on the cables. I replaced mine last year, but feel

Play in the wheel can come from several sources.
1) The keyway in the wheel becomes enlarged or the key wears down
2) Loose chain links in the pedestal
3) The rudder bearings develop play
4) Slack in the cables attached to the quadrant
There may be other causes, but these are the most common.
Thanks for all the quick responses. My test at the dock showed the shaft
spinning up with rpms, but I think you are all right about the transmission.
The engagement is slow, not a think. We're at Brewers in Branford, so I think
a trip to Old Saybrook is in my future...

We had exactly the same symptoms on our 3GM and the fix was as Graham
described. Our trans was OEM made by a Kansaki (Yanmar subsidiary) and they
stopped making our model some time ago. The newer versions may fit the bell
housing but have different overall dimensions so your only real altern
Clutch cone? I had similar issues when I bought my boat, but not
identical - when in gear it would slowly engage, once engaged it would
stay engaged. Reverse was fine. Had to get the cones lapped, the
surfaces were seriously glazed. Which meant pulling the transmission
for an overhaul...
My nephew is looking to purchase a C&C 27 mkV (1984-1986) Yachtworld currently
has 3 available. Does anyone have a lead on one that's for sale now or in the
near future. He just sold his C&C 24 and wants to move up to a 27 mkV. He's a
serious buyer for a realistically priced boat in good conditi
Tim,
When it "caught" was it more of a thunk or just slowly came up to speed?
I have not had a Yanmar aux in a boat for over 10 years but this sound more
like an oil pressure or clutch belt issue than a propeller problem.

The last time out I noticed some strange behaviour when motoring.
Basically, I got very little drive from the prop until I increased revs
pretty substantially (around 2000rpm) and then it 'caught' and I got normal
speed from the revs, and am able to throttle up or down appropriately. If

yea thats great stuff!
