Interlux Matterhorn White is a good compromise based on all that can happen
over time...that's a 2 part interlux polyurethane and it costs about $80 a
liter...I did my deck with that a few years ago and it is very tough paint
and the sun doesn't affect it much...with some ordinary boat dirt on smal
Nick,
Our local hardware store sells what is essentially a do it yourself
spray can. If you get paint mixed you pour it in and spray it like a
normal spray can. (the contractor who renovated my last house had
one.) If you are looking as wet samples remember that paint darkens
slightly when it d
Hi Nick
I'd recommend borrowing a color chip card and seeing what matches best.
I did that with Gelcoat, had a quart mixed which is (HOPEFULLY!!!) more
than I'll ever need, great match.

I use car spray cans for that kind of thing. Mask off the area to be painted
and spray several light coats. The choice of colours is entirely adequate at
most automotive stores and the paint is weatherproof and dries quickly.

Lots of great suggestions, thanks everyone!
However, I should have emphasized that I would prefer to cover the
tiny epoxy repairs using a few drops of paint. The Interlux
Matterhorn White seems close. Wondering if anyone know of another
option.

One trick is to add various tints to the gelcoat paste, without hardener, till
it matches the boat. Get the color right for a large batch, by putting a dab on
the boat and wipe it off. Then you take a small amount to make your repair, add
the proper amount of hardener, apply. Label the rest and
Hi,
It may be too late but remember that gelcoat has very poor adhesion over
epoxy, even if you remove the amine blush and sand carefully. Might be better
to go with a polyurethane paint.

I used a different approach, when I repowered a few years ago, the throttle
spring (internal) was so strong the lever kept pulling back, so I added a
spring on the engine pulling the throttle on to counteract it. I had to
experiment with a few different tension springs, but now works perfect with
Pantone used to sell a gadget like a little camera that takes a shot of
color and gives you the components. Since then, there is now an app for
that! You can download for 10 bucks or less for your smart phone and match
pretty closely, or you might be able to borrow one from a good car paint
store.
I've had pretty good luck lately with the little tubes of touchup gelcoat from
Evercoat, using their standard white. It's been close enough in color for me
for small hole repair, but then again, I'm probably going to be going over
these with Kiwigrip sometime in the near future.

Gary: Even if someone tries it and it matches their boat perfectly, there is
an even chance that, although it may be close, it will not match your boat.
Best way I have found is to mix the gel and colours in a ziplock bag which
can be set beside the deck near the repair to check, and further colour
I remember a post which had the "mix" for matching C&C gelcoat - obviously
the generic non faded version:
One cap gelcoat
6 drops brown, 3 yellow, and 2 black.
Haven't tried it, hope someone can, I have some touch up to do

Like Rich says, gelcoat colors vary not only from boat to boat but also on the
same boat. If a boat has been moored with one side facing the sun for years,
that side may be lighter than the other side.
Too bad it's a small area and you're not doing gelcoat. If you were doing a
large area, Fi
There is no one answer to your question. Gelcoat colours vary subtly from
boat to boat, year to year and the sun plays a big role in how they fade.
I suggest getting a gelcoat kit which includes the dyes and mixing your own.
There are lots of tips on the internet.

Hi everyone,
I epoxy filled a few screw holes on deck, now it's time to paint the
tiny repairs. Would anyone know the brand/colour code which best
matches the gelcoat on the deck of a Landfall 38?
Thanks in advance,

I didn't shop around a lot. The line was about $350. Pelican hook for
gates are $60 each. I am lashing one end of each line so there are no
turnbuckles. Each splice takes me 20 to 30 minutes. The lower lines have
have plastic inserts in the holes. I'll check the uppers for rough edges.

What's the price of amsteeel versus wire? I got a quote of about $1200 for
steel a while back.
Also, if you use amsteel, how to you protect from chafing when it goes
through the stanchion? On my stanchions, at least, the edges of the holes
look rather rough.
