There is nothing different between Debian and other Linux distros. If your clocks are losing time then you need to replace the battery that powers the RTC (it is a round battery on the motherboard). You may not be able to replace the battery on the laptop, in which case your best bet is to have a

No computer clock is ever perfect, which is why we have Network Time Protocol. :-) If your desktop or laptop completely looses its time when you turn it off, the CMOS battery is dead/dieing and needs to be replaced. I would recommend using ntpd running as a daemon to manage the clock on both your

The desktop is a hand me down from my brother Mel which I got more recently. I do not know how come it is about ten minutes fast. Until you get a good fix, run sudo rdate time4.nrc.ca when you login in, maybe with -a option to gradually sync rather than jump to correct time. Pardon the obvious

Hello all of you who helped me. Thank you Lance for the link to that site. When I looked at the site I saw how easy it was to install the ntpd . I just did an su, aptitude update, and then aptitude install ntp on both computers and now both computers are keeping time more accurately. Thanks aga
