Why not try what Unbuntu is based on? Debian testing is going to be the
next stable release soon, I run it and never had any issues with
ClamAV. Especially what you describe.

I just checked the machines that (not yet?) failed as well as the
failing systems
do /not/ show any unusual swap usage.

We only offer the AV definition Files to be downloaded using Freshclam or
CVDUpdate.
These programs both include a check in them to ensure users are not downloading
the same database over and over again.

updates in the same way that 0.102 is currently blocked.
We recommend updating to the most current version to continue to have the best
results.
