I am guessing that is true although this machine had a Pentium quad core
processor, NVidia (PCI) dual port and 4 gig of ram. I may try on my
other box which has a newer Nvidia card PCIExpress

Well I just tried using those paramaters in my winFF (AKA ffmpeg) which
is a new version SVN-r20329 Still very slow moption playback in
cinelerra and ffplay yields an interresting stop action effect like a
series of stills-- good for an effect but not for real for me.

I can transcode to raw dv 720x480 anamorphic. No luck so far with the
higher resolutions it plays very slow ehn i try higher resolutions and
the audio looses sync

I have been trying to transcode the Sony AVCHD files to a .mov container
in cinelerra. So far unsuccessful.
here is the simple transcode attempt:
jud...@edit1:~/Videos/MTS$ ffmpeg -i 00029.MTS -vcodec copy -acodec copy
-y cp00029.mov
FFmpeg version SVN-r20220, Copyright (c) 2000-2009 Fabrice B
can spend more time being creative and less time trying to hack
in a working version of cinelerra.

It sounds like the mac did not have the correct video decoder try to
render or use ffmpeg or winff to convert this to one of the ipod preset
formats and see it that works.
I usually stay with raw.dv in cinelerra, render to that and then use
winff / ffmpeg to transcode to the end format as needed.
