Mark,
I’ve had the cable for a long time, but never really used it. As best I can
recall, it was a cheap cable. I’m inclined to just find a good replacement. Can
you recommend a good source for quality cables?
Thanks.

Hi Jerry.
A common cause for that problem is the cable having insufficient or
intermittent contact with the socket on the side of the radio. The
plastic around the socket on some radios and/or the plastic around the
connector pins on the cable is sometimes a bit to thick or irregular

I’m new to Chirp software. The equipment I’m using is a Yaesu FT 60 and a

Be careful saying 'encrypting' in an Amateur Radio context. Encoding is
okay, encrypting not so much.

On transmit, the DSP gets it's audio from your microphone and feeds the
processed audio directly into the radio's modulator.

You're not going to do that using any connector normally provided on the radio.
You can send the data out of the computer through a serial port but it will
need to go directly into the modulator or VFO on the radio. There are special

I see Linux sees the device just fine, and you should be in the right

/dev/ttyUSB0 is correct.

You might want to check to make sure your user has proper permissions.
In linux, typically the groups you might need for this kind of
operation include `dialout`, `usb`, and while you're at it you might
as well include `plugdev`.
The command to add your user to a group might be `sudo
