David, how do you know that W0RZF and KA0ADV (both in Lawrence, KS) are
old timers? One never knows these days with the ability to request old
calls not currently held.
Also if he (or she) is an old timer then computer's might be foreign to

OK. This is very interesting and I’m learning a lot…. I can see the cable in
the system report and I can move it to different USB ports and it moves in the
report. When I disconnect all other devices there is still a default bluetooth
USB port operating with the keyboard and track pad.
But,
Billy, I'd recommend going to your local ham club meetup and bring your
laptop, cable and radio and see if someone can help you.
We're not getting enough information from you to really help you much.

We cannot solve your problem without those answers.
All you've given us now is that you're using a new cable and your using
Windows 10.

I was not even aware that connecting via bluetooth was an option. The cable is
in a standard USB port. I’m not sure how to find or install a device driver
(is that for the cable?).

Please answer these questions in my yesterday's message below one by one so
we can help you.

Billy,
Tell us these things.
What Operating System and Version are you using?
Example Windows Vista, or Arch Linux, etc.
Go to Device Manager if you're using Windows and see if there are any
Warnings especially under connections and com ports. If so, what are the
warnings?
