Saving old paper labels on keyboards

Perhaps something like silly putty would work? Although as a precautionary tale, the silly putty from the 60s also removed part of the original ink. I do not know what the current formula would do. As kids, we used to have fun getting reverse images of the colorful comics in the Sunday paper :-
