I used to think museums were the only right place for historic items, and
despite being a collector myself, I used to kind of not love things
disappearing into private collections. But I realize now private collections
are a fairly efficient, cost effective and safe way for things to be preserv

Hi there,Haven't had much time for vintage computers due to my job dealing with
new ones, but the odd evening I have been working on PCB replica projects. One
of them is for the MAI Jolt. I recently picked up alsome NOS 6530-004s, and
thought it'd be a fun replica to try. I have completed the b

Question going back to the estate planning subject...do auction houses tend to
receive higher bids than ebay for vintage computer gear? Are they any better
in terms of finding the right buyers? One day I might want to sell my Mark-8 and

Yeah. I notice even Wikipedia has been really begging lately. I'm amazed
they've all lasted as long as they have. That would really suck if archive went
away. So useful.Sent from my Galaxy

Yes I find them useful also. But they are almost all archived on archive.org..
so I wondered how much value an actual paper copy would have. I thought
Peoples Computer Company had a decent circulation (like in the tens of
thousands) and could be expected to turn up from time to time. Have to

I always figured hardware would be collectible but I wondered about printed
materials like magazines. Although I did just see two copies of the Popular
Electronics issue that introduced the Altair go for $400 each..I also wonder
who I'm competing with.. do museums go and bid on ebay for stuff?S
I wonder why Paul didn't set it up to try and find a group willing to keep LCM
or the whole collection under a new museum first. Then have a provision that it
must be a non profit, and if it doesn't work, proceed to auction for charity.

In the old days we had a cottage on a binational lake in Quebec, and the border

I use MyUS for that.. I think they have a UK place also. Fees are okay and
they will store things for up to 3 months and then ship things in a single
bundle.Without them my collection would never have happened.Sent from my Galaxy

I have thought about this a lot.. and as I begin to creep into my 50s and
experience real aging and the health issues that sometimes come with that, I am
giving serious thought to liquidating well before I die. Even at very

I'm curious what happens to items that were donated on the understanding that
the museum would be a safe long term place for them?Pretty sad they couldn't
make it work.BradSent from my Galaxy

I'd be happy to make an attempt or two if interested. I have a few vintage
printers and tons of machines and peripherals.. sure I could offer some
possible options. Not trying to dump on anyone's work by *any* means - just

I watched them all. Hmm.I don't think I much like the SID ones.. Commodore has

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a repository that had SWTPC tape files
archived (as .WAV, .TAP, etc). The 6800 system I am presently using is
wired according to original SWTPC specs and does not have a DB25.. so I
cannot simply switch cables from CT1024 to PC terminal like I could
