Do not get your fingers burned as far as stereo under linux is
concerned, nvidia's drivers do not support this for the gt and gtx
cards (although these cards may have similar architecture at the end

For laptops, the passive stereo (Zalman mode) would be the easiest way to go.
All you need to do is to plug that monitor to the VGA port of you laptop. The
