seem to remember we tried
doing everything in Python and it being about 20 to 100 times slower.
For small midi files that does not matter much; so be sure to test with
large midi files, ouverture coriolanus comes to mind.

written out in full, ie, have no repeat, where other parts do have
repeats. If you do not increase all bar numbers with each
measure played, you are going to see "interesting" things
