I did not have access to an intel machine until this morning. I find
the same behavior on my intel iMac running
OS 10.4.11-- Lilypond v. 45 _crashes_

yes, this only refers to the GUI wrapper.
So summarizing, we have
10.3 ppc : ?
10.4 ppc : broken
10.4 x86 : ok
10.5 x86 : ok (using the ppc build)
