runs fine. Gentoo can be a bit behind on unmasking the
latest versions of stuff. But it's no problem to build from the latest
sources downloaded via the bacula web site.
The install script that comes with Bacula is Gentoo aware and seems to do a
good job of putting things where they need to go
down like that you will probably know enough about the problem to fix it,
or at least have a good start at it.

I have not been successful. This may be a difficult one to find (although

It may be that since you are not logged in to the system on which the
tunnel is being opened the operating system closes it as soon as the script
exits. You may need to invoke the tunnel with nohup or something similar
to let it continue without a user being logged in
