Some months ago I had occasion to backup and restore a disk image of a
Windows system using Bacula. The situation was a hard disk on a Windows
system that had suddenly developed a loud whine and we wanted to replace it
ASAP. The procedure was this:

1. Boot to Knoppix.
2. Download statically-compiled Bacula fd to client machine over network
onto ramdisk.
3. Start fd.
4. Set up special client and fileset on Bacula server, specifying the
entire hard disk: /dev/hda
5. Do the backup.
6. Install identical replacement hard disk on client machine.
7. Repeat steps 1 through 3.
8. Do restore.

This process was completed in a surprisingly short amount of time, 2-3
hours as I recall.

We also had the usual Bacula backups of this machine "just in case".

Best Regards,

Karl Cunningham
