Probably the best solution would be to ignore this question entirely --
it seems to be well documented, and now it's in the list archives every

My question would have to be "why is this a problem /now/, when prior to
1.38.8 or so, people seemed to manage to compile this on their

You need to type:
make
make install
'make install' on it's own doesn't work.
