Gentlemen,
I would like to sincerely thank you both for your considerate and helpful
replies. You have resolved three days of tears, frustration and swearing. :-)
My copy job is now working correctly.

Can anyone explain why a FileSet is required when migrating/copying from one
volume to another?
Essentially we have an "OFFSITE" backup that I want on local (iSCSI) disk, then
to be copied to LTO-4 tape.
There are several backup jobs, each with a different FileSet selection.
Can anyone suggest
Can anyone give me some guidance on how to configure a rolling backup? Given an
arbitrary amount of storage on disk (and no other options), say 1.5TB or 5.5TB,
how can we configure an "automatically recycling" rolling backup that just
keeps going?
Eg, if we can fit 2 weeks on disk backups, so b
If anyone else encounters a similar problem, we narrowed it down to the SAS
card. We were using a Dell PERC 5/E in the Gen 3 PowerEdge 2950 server running
Debian 6, and later Debian 7.
As a workaround, we have installed Bacula on another server with PCI-X based
SAS cards that use mtx to load an
Actually, scrap that - I have been able to try my "freshly compiled"
executable, and it still has the same problem unforuntately. :-(

Thanks again Gary - I am reluctant to run the mtx-changer script included in
Bacula just yet, as this usually hangs and results in having to restart the
tape library, the bacula server, or both.
I have compiled mtx from source, and replaced the Debian packages version -
however, I'll have to wa
Hi All,
Performing a test upgrade of our Debian Squeeze server to the new Wheezy
release has broken the mtx package.
MTX relies on a /dev/sg* device (under Squeeze, the autochanger was /dev/sg4) -
however under Wheezy there is only /dev/sch0.
Trying to run mtx against it returns:
mtx -f /dev/
That's a good suggestion - thank Gary.
I've located the mtx package, and have tried two versions: mtx_1.3.12-4_amd64
and mtx_1.3.12-3_amd64. The actual binary is in /usr/sbin/mtx and was installed
by the Debian Aptitude package manager.
When I tried editing this in nano, it appears as if it's n
I apologise if my initial post was difficult to read - I wanted to include all
the diagnostics/steps performed to save lots of back and forth about our setup,
what commands had been tried and so on.
The strange thing is - when it worked perfectly previously, nothing has changed
since (eg, packa
Hi All,
We have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 connected to a Dell TL4000 LTO4 tape library via
dual port SAS (Dell PERC5/e card). This library is a "rebranded" IBM 3573-TL
changer with 2 x ULT3580-TD4 drives.
I cannot get it to work consistently with either the base mtx commands,
although it has been
