Hello,
The error shown below "VSS API failure ..." generally happens
because the Windows VSS is broken. Normally fixing it is done by
stopping *all* VSS services then restarting them or for most
people, it is easier simply to reboot the system.
Erik, one more step I forgot to mention:
Before doing anything I wrote in my last email, make sure you either restart
the director (not necessary), or issue a "reload" in bconsole so the director
picks up the pool configuration modifications.

Hi Erik
After adding the "Action on Purge = truncate" to your pool(s), you need to
perform a few extra steps, especially if you have existing volumes in those
pool(s) already:
In bconsole:
* update pool=PoolYouModified (repeat for each pool)
then to set the Truncate on Purge flag for each vo

Never mind. Just reread your previous email, and realized you said that
bacula was 20-25x slower than rsync. So definitely look at the DB
tunings, especially if your DB is very large.

Not an expert, but it seems like you need to determine whether the
problem is with bacula, or something underlying.
Even if it's just a quick test, I would copy a large file to the
destination, and time it, to figure out if the non-bacula transfer speed
is consistent with the bacula backup jobs or

Did you count each folder and subfolder?
I wouldn't bother to do that. If Bacula can't restore or backup an existing
file it would mostly appear on log.

Did you perhaps install the 32-bit client on 64-bit Windows?

Hello Fernando: in Windows FileSets you should still use regular regular
slashes (/), unix standard, instead of back ones.

Hello Erik,
You´re welcome. Did you issued a purge command on these volumes before?
With the
"Action
on purge = truncate"
configured, the purged volumes will be truncated. So, if these volumes
are with purged status, they are already truncated.
Best regards,

Hello,
The concept of Truncate on Purge is and was very useful, and it was
designed to be a bit safe to use to protect users from accidently
destroying data. However, I also found the old method complicated to
use so I replaced it in version 7.0.x (as pointed out by Ana) with

Hello Erik,
On Bacula 7.0.5 version, the "purge action=truncate" do not exist any more.
There is a new truncate command that substittutes the "purge +
action=truncate" from previous versions:
