I'm sure I left out plenty of information and didn't want to crowd the post with
code, so if there is specific information that is needed please let me know.

Bill, thanks for the reply. I am also able to open both arecord and aplay at
same time, but in my software if I try to access the card in playback mode, I am
unable to open it again in capture mode. Was hoping it was going to be
straightforward, but maybe there is a catch when trying to open the
For weeks now I have been struggling to make duplex audio work in my
software. I have exhausted my web browser looking for answers. So I
have decided to fall back and ask about the general idea. Is there a
way to open capture and playback streams at the same time?
I have a dumb codec connected

I got a Sound Blaster Audigy (a plain Audigy, no Platinum or such things I
think) card and downloaded latest alsa drivers. Im trying to compile it under
Fedora Core 1, with latest kernel 2.4.22 and I get this error:
serialmidi.c:164: error: Invalid operands to binary >
How can I solve this? Now
After compiling and installing, I managed to make modules load without
(visible) errors. I run alsasound script and reports status as drivers
loaded. But I got no sound.
I try to use alsamixer and got this:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
I try to

Compiled again drivers and libs with moddir set to
lib/modules/version/sound/pci/emu10k1
Same effe
I downloaded version 1.0.1 and compiled it without errors. But when I run
service alsasound restart I got this error:
Starting sound driver: snd-emu10k1
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2135.nptlsmp/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o: unresolved

/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2135.nptlsmp/kernel/sound/ac
Is required or not to run this script for version 1.x of the drivers?

Well, after running the script, many missing dirs were created.
The good news is that it didnt broke anything, in fact, now I can use OSS
emulation. The not so good news is that still, alsa drivers doesnt works.
i downloaded and recompiled xmms and get this:

I want to lower the volume for the oss emulation, so I can listen xmms (using
alsa output) without the interference of gaim sound events. What setting do I
have to modify in alsamixer to achieve this?

I have noticed a weird problem, when I plug the speakers jack to the sound
card (Audigy 1) my system starts generating lots of errors until it crashes.
