I have P5LD2 SE not P5LD2... it's a bit cheaper and different.. It has
a realtek ethernet nic instead of an intel one, ad1986 instead of
alc882 and intel ich7 "normal" sata controller instead of the intel
matrix sata controller (which has ahci support in addition to ahci)..

Have you tried with the asymed plugin instead of dmix (which is what
alsa uses for default when there is no hw mixing)?
I will try it in the next days...

The Sony vaio vgn-nr21z hd audio card doesn't work out of the box. It says:
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC262, trying auto-probe from BIOS...
I've found that setting model=sony-assamd works, jack sensing and the mic.
Could you please add this model?

I thought that emu10k1 is well supported by alsa and generally linux

I have two soundcards, an integrated alc850 (nforce chipset) and an sb

tried to configure dmix for each card.
I use alsa 1.0.10 under debian testing.
I want to start two dmix instances, one for each card, but I noticed

You have to install kernel-headers-2.6.8-2-386 . The kernel image
doesn't have header files, so you can't compile any module against it.
I recommend you to use modules-assistant, which is a debian utility
suited to compile and install additional kernel mode easily.

I think that your problem can be resolved by any recent distribution.
If you read the archives of this mailing list there are people who used
alsa with more and more devices than you..
Which distro have you tried?

It's not a "clean" support, but works with dmix, only if using the
default device.
Have you tried to redefine the default device in asound.conf or .asoundrc?
