Hello list:
Problem: I can successfully compile alsa-drivers but when I run modprobe
snd-sbawe (or its alias snd-card-0) which is the module for my sbawe64
soundcard I get the following error:
[root@FarNorth misc]# modprobe snd-sbawe

I'm trying to build the alsa driver 0.9.0rc3 on Redhat 7.3, kernel
2.4.19. I have a large number of errors, and it dies of before
completing any build. Before I post a large error message, can anyone
here tell me if 0.9.0rc3 is actually known to work on Redhat 7.3?

Fedor,
Thanks for your detailed response.
After having to dig out the md5sums from different
packages (I had althon and intel kernel rpms for 2.4.18-5 and I wasn't sure
which one was actually running).
Anyway after following the procedure I now get compile errors saying that I

Hello!
Also there are still some problems with the cs4236 driver. There is a
small bug with pnp and if you have a terratec ews64(...) then there is the
problem that it has two chips and if it has once run under windows it is
switched to the second chip. There is still work to be done for this.
I have it working in 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-10 for a Soundblaster Live!

Yes I have kernel sources in /usr/src/linux (it's symlink to

Hi all,
I have a Terratec Dmx Xfire 1024, and I use ALSA
with my mandrake 9.0rc1.
The sound is ok but when I lanch quake 3. I have an
error : /dev/dsp/ could not fint mmap()
I saw in the ALSA documentation here :

Ok, thanks! This is also a sblive; I know the stock RH kernels might
have an effect due to patches, so going from 2.4.18-10 to my 2.4.19
could have some effect, though offhand I couldn't say what

Looks like perhaps I have the same problem with 0.9.0rc3, but I use
sblive instead of SB16. My error output below does *not* reflect removal
of sym link alsa-driver-0.9.0rc3/include/linux/isapnp.h, I was unable to
compile at all without isapnp.h, dependencies cause make to exit before
starting
Hi all. I am attempting to get Speakfreely release 7.5 working with
Alsa-0.9.0rc1. I have a Crystal-cs4236b card. I have tried setting various
combinations of CCFLAGS, and so far nothing has worked. Has anyone been
able to use Speakfreely with this version of Alsa? I can get sfspeaker to
work (it

Thank you. I already knew a lot of that, but you helped pull together the
last bits. The little lime green bastard now hotplugs, coldplugs, and life is
good ;-)

Hi all. As a result of looking through the list archives, I have concluded
that oss emulation isn't working properly. This is apparent in my earlier
post about Speakfreely not working properly. I further tested this with
rec, which uses oss, and sure enough I hear no audio. I have alsa-0.9.0rc1

Hi,
My machine has two sound cards, both of which I need to use with Alsa. I
ran alsaconf choosing each card individually and writing a modules.conf for
each. I have then attempted to merge the two of them together into a single
file. The merged file is my current modules.conf, and when booting

This is odd, you usually get this message if you mucked up with kernel
config, like compiles OSS into the kernel, and then try to build against
that. But if you are running the RH kernel from the RPM, this should not
happen. Did you do what ALSA web page says, remove that isapnp.h file?
On Sun, 8
I removed the isapnp.h file before my original post after getting the
compile errors you would expect.
There hasn't been any kernel compilation, I am just using stuff from redhat
rpms. I am running an athlon kernel.
Cheers

When you load the module, set the option snd_mmap_valid=1. This will
enable support for OSS mmap'ing.

Hmm, hard to say. I compiled alsa 0.9rc3 against 2.4.18 Redhat kernel,
with Athlon config.
Could you post the output of "uname -a" and "ls -l /usr/src/"?
Also attach your /usr/src/linux/.config file (perhaps that one you can
send to me instead of the list, I want to diff it against mine to see if
