I noticed that request a lot of people has this problem with this
quake3 thing.

It seems that the mmap protocol is not supported by the OSS emulation
of the Alsa drivers.

Am I wrong ?

And, is there any workaround for this ?

It would be a shame to drop all the users that use Quake under Linux,
don't you think ? 8-)
