i was actually suspecting the old modem/ethernet and soundcard conflict
but maybe thats particular to my laptop i can only run my quattro if
i configure it first before the modem... argh...

1. tar up all the relevant modules in
/lib/modules/my-kernel-number/kernel/sound (someone please check this is

the inputs from my quattro are noisy and distorted. Sometimes the levels are very
low, and sometimes they are overdriven. They always have some kind of
