I got a Realtek audio chip ALC650 with intel 865G chipset and I
succesfully installed alsa 0.9.7c with kernel 2.4.22 (module snd-intel8x0)
I compiled 2.6.0test9 with alsa support(0.9.7) and it also worked.

alsa-devel, alsa-driver) from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/tiwai/7.2-i386/ and
installed them as outlined in the readme of the site.
specifically, here's what i did:
rpm -Uvh alsa.rpm --force
rpm -Uvh alsa-driv

using the .5xx version of alsa I am going to have to upgrade to the .9xx
