However, when I run alsamixer to unmute my sound levels, I get: alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device And if I run amixer, I get: amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device First thing, make sure /dev/dsp, /dev/mixer and anything like that are chmod 777ed

Hello all, I am a Linux newbie and currently I have everything up and running excpet my Monster Sound MX300 sound card, which uses the au8830 chipset. After searching various forums for days, I learned that ALSA in the 2.6 kernel doesn't support my sound card, so I followed the instructions
