The latest version (1.0.0rc1) has some fixes for ALC655 and ALC658.
Apparently, it does support 44.1.

I am using Slackware 9.1 and i have installed alsa 9.8 (alsa-driver, alsa-lib,
alsa-oss and alsa-utils) in order to get my sound working.
