Hi

I have a gigabyte IPE8000 mainboard with realtek alc655 codec.
I am using Slackware 9.1 and i have installed alsa 9.8 (alsa-driver, alsa-lib,
alsa-oss and alsa-utils) in order to get my sound working.
From a previous post I understood it is possible to get alsa 9.8 to recognize
alc655, so i suppose I am missing something in my installation....Here it is:

I installed using ./configure, make, make install for all 4 packages and then
I used ./snddevices, without getting any errors......

When using alsaconf, it finds
1. "intel8x0 - Intel Corp.:Unknown device 24d5 (rev 02) " and
2. "legacy - Probe legacy ISA (non Pnp) chips"

Using the first choice, the sound is extremely distorted at times, and OK at
other moments........ I presume that even if intel8x0 is an ac97 codec too,
it is a little different than the alc655, so I am surprised that it even
works.

I tried writing in /etc/modules.conf but it didn't work. I have a feeling
this is where I am mistaken....Can anyone help me with a specific
modules.conf sample file?

Thank you
